Our laboratory at IRIDeS, Tohoku University, is always seeking bright, motivated students and researchers interested in physics-based and agent-based simulation, remote sensing, and machine learning for disaster science.

Open positions

PhD Students

For applicants interested in earth observation, machine learning, or tsunami simulation. We look for:

  • A master's degree in a relevant field
  • Programming skills (e.g. Python, Fortran)
  • Strong research motivation
  • English proficiency

Postdoctoral Researchers

Openings arise periodically, usually tied to funded projects. Ideal candidates have:

  • A PhD in remote sensing, geophysics, or a related field
  • A solid publication record
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Visiting Researchers

We welcome short- and long-term visiting researchers. Requirements:

  • Relevant ongoing research
  • An institutional affiliation
  • A minimum stay of 6 months (recommended)
